RESEARCH FOCI: Community Violence, African Diaspora, Masculinity

Devon  entered the Applied Social & Cultural Psychology program in Fall 2023. His major professor is Dr. Dionne Stephens. He obtained his bachelor’s degree in Psychology and master's degree in Community Psychology from Florida Agricultural & Mechanical University (FAMU). Prior to starting his doctoral degree, he was the Assistant Director of Outreach & Partnerships at Florida Memorial University.

Devon's interests broadly encompas the relationships between community violence and masculinity cultural norms across diverse Black populations. For more information about his research, please email Devon directly.

Devon's Related Activities
Devon founded Drum Major Empowerment Foundation in 2018. Inspired by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s “Drum Major Instinct” message, the Drum Major Empowerment Foundation, Inc. (DME) is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization dedicated to supporting students further their education at post secondary institutions. DME provides college readiness resources, student leadership support, hazing prevention education, and marching band training. The overall aim of DME is to empower, enlighten, and positively influence the academic, social, and personal trajectories of students in grades 9 through 12.

Additionally, Devon served as the Director of the Black Male College Explorers Program at Florida Memorial University. This progressive intervention program was designed specifically to prevent black males from dropping out of high school, facilitate their admission to college, and significantly increase their chances of earning a college degree.
